Patient instructions – proctoscopy

Before the procedure 

• The rectum should be emptied using a micro-enema (e.g. Toilax, Microlax) before the examination. Squeeze out the entire content into the rectum four (4) hours before the examination. 
• You can buy the micro-enema from the pharmacy without a prescription. 
• Internal haemorrhoids can also be treated using a Barron ligature (rubber band ligation) in connection with proctoscopy.
