Aeromedical Center Aava AeMC
An Aeromedical Center (AeMC or AMC) is a medical unit authorized by Traficom with specialized expertise in aviation medicine. Aava AeMC operates at the Aava Aviapolis clinic in Vantaa.
Aava has a long history and strong expertise in the aviation sector. Aviation medical examinations have been conducted since as early as 1974, and Aava’s founder, Juhani Aho, carried out aviation medical examinations together with his colleagues from the very beginning.
Since 2013, Aava has hosted a Traficom-approved Aeromedical Center, which is currently the largest in Finland. Each year, the majority of individuals in Finland applying to become professional pilots pass through Aava AeMC.
Ensuring Flight Safety
Aviation medicine is a distinct medical specialty because flying places specific physical and psychological demands on the human body that are not typically encountered in other fields of medicine. Pilots and flight crew must be in excellent physical and mental condition, as even a minor health issue can compromise flight safety.
Ensuring flight safety is the primary objective in all activities at Aava AeMC.
The Head of the Aeromedical Center (Head of AeMC) is occupational health physician and aeromedical examiner (AME1) Janne Lepola, who sees patients at Aava Aviapolis. Aava AeMC employs a total of 10 Traficom-approved aeromedical physicians and 5 aviation nurses.

Appointments are made through the nurses of Aava’s Aeromedical Center. They can also provide additional information on all aviation medical examinations.
Occupational Health Services for Flight Personnel
Aava AeMC provides occupational health services for selected airlines based on separate agreements.
In addition to occupational health physicians specialized in aviation, Aava AeMC employs occupational health nurses as well as, among others, an occupational health psychologist and an occupational physiotherapist specialized in aviation.
