For minors – assessing a minor’s decision-making ability

At Aava, we assess the decision-making ability of minors, which affects whether your appointment information is visible to your guardian in MyKanta. If you are deemed capable of making decisions, you also have the right to prohibit the disclosure of data.

As a minor, you have the option to limit the visibility of your data to your guardian.

  • If a health care professional determines that you are able to decide on your treatment, you have the right to restrict the visibility of your appointment information to your guardian. Such information includes treatment-related entries, diagnoses, referrals and prescriptions issued by a health care professional. You can view them in Oma Aava and MyKanta. Learn more about the checking and release of patient records.
  • A decision-making ability assessment is carried out at each appointment, and the assessment takes into account factors such as age, maturity level and the reason for the appointment.
  • As a minor, you cannot deny the guardian access to all information, but an assessment of the ability to make decisions is made separately at each appointment.

If you do not want your appointment booking details to be visible to your guardian, book an appointment by calling our customer service on +358 (0)10 380 3838. When booking an appointment, state that you do not want your guardian to be informed of the appointment.

You can see the following information when you log in to the Oma Aava service with your online banking credentials or mobile ID:

  • Appointment data and diagnoses
  • Prescriptions
  • Laboratory and X-ray referrals and results
  • Your vaccination information if you have been vaccinated at Aava
