Several clinics of Aava Medical Centre offer coronavirus testing (COVID-19 PCR). The test shows whether a person is currently infected with the coronavirus. A doctor’s or nurse’s referral is required for a coronavirus test.
It usually takes 10–12 hours to get the test results. The time varies between testing locations. After the Kela reimbursement, the price of a coronavirus test for private customers at Aava is EUR 109.*
Who can be tested for the coronavirus?
The need for testing is primarily assessed during a doctor’s remote appointment. Common symptoms of the coronavirus include a cough, runny nose, fever, muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, headache and a loss of smell and taste.
If you suspect that you have contracted the coronavirus, please first book an appointment with your occupational doctor or Aava’s general practitioner.
Negative coronavirus test certificate for travel and other purposes
If you need to, for example, travel by air or obtain a health certificate for work-related reasons, a doctor may refer you to a coronavirus test even if you have no symptoms. In that case, the coronavirus test will not be reimbursable by Kela.
Make sure to check with your airline what kind of certificates they require from passengers.
The doctor who referred you to the test will issue you a certificate. Make sure to tell them that you need one in advance.
If you are asymptomatic and need a certificate, you can also book an appointment with a nurse. In that case, you will be issued a referral on the phone. You can get the certificate from any Aava clinic when your test results are ready – learn more.
How to make an appointment for coronavirus testing?
The doctor decides whether or not testing is necessary based on the consultation. They will then give you an electronic referral for testing. Arrange with the doctor how you will be notified of your test results.
Starting on 14 December 2020, you can also book a coronavirus test conveniently online at the most suitable clinic. Online booking requires strong identification, in other words, online banking credentials or mobile ID. If the person to be tested does not have them, the appointment can also be booked by calling our customer service at 010 380 3838
You must stay at home in quarantine-like conditions while waiting for the testing appointment and test results.

Preparation and arrival for coronavirus testing
Once you have booked the coronavirus test appointment, we will send you the preparation and arrival instructions by SMS.
Please do not arrive too early or late in order to avoid queues at the testing point. Please remember to bring your ID with you.
The coronavirus sample is taken with a sample stick from the nasopharynx (nostril). The sampling process might feel unpleasant, but it is over very quickly.
Coronavirus test results
It usually takes 10–12 hours to get the test results. In any case, it should take no longer than 24 hours. During this time, the tested individual must stay at home in quarantine-like conditions.
If you gave the clinic your telephone number when you booked the appointment and have authorised the clinic to send your care instructions and test results to your phone in the Your Health Information service, you will receive your coronavirus test (PCR) results by SMS.
Otherwise, you can view the test results in the Your Health Information service on Aava’s website. Please note that if multiple family members have given the same phone number to the clinic, all the test results will be sent to the same number anonymously. You can check your personal test results on Aava’s and Pikkujätti’s online services. If you went to a coronavirus antigen test (rapid test) or have not received your results by SMS in 10–12 hours, please check your results from Aava’s online service.
If your result is positive, Aava’s personnel will call you, or contact you in some other way, and give you instructions for quarantine and recovery. Our personnel will also contact you by phone in order to gather information on possible chains of infection. They will forward the information to your home municipality’s infectious diseases unit. You will also be contacted by your home municipality’s infectious diseases doctor, who will make the official decision on isolation as well as give you more information about any further treatment.
If your test result is negative but you need home care instructions or a plan for further treatment, agree on the contact method with the treating doctor.
The results of customers under the age of 12 are reported to a parent via SMS, and the results can also be checked from the PikkuTiedot service of Pikkujätti. A guardian can log in to the PikkuTiedot service using their banking credentials and use the service on behalf of the child. Customers aged 12–17 will receive a telephone call about their results.
Price and payment of coronavirus testing
* The price of a coronavirus test for private customers at Aava is EUR 109 after the Kela reimbursement (before reimbursement: EUR 209).
The Kela reimbursement (EUR 100, as of 1 January 2021) applies to tests performed upon a doctor’s referral. No Kela reimbursement will be paid if the test is performed on an asymptomatic person in order to issue a travel certificate, for example.
Please note that the remote or telephone appointment during which a doctor gives the test results and makes an assessment and a plan for further treatment are charged for separately. The invoice will be sent to the patient’s home address after the testing.
